Rachel Carson
Who is she?
Rachel Carson is a famous American marine biologist, writer and naturalist. She is regarded as one of the most influential people of the 20th century.
What did she study?
She was an english major but switch her major to biology.
When did she live?
She was born on May 27th, 1907, on a small farm near Springdale, Pennsylvania. She was the youngest of her siblings and often spent a lot of time exploring the forest and streams around her farm.
Where did she study?
She studied at Pennsylvania College for Woman which later became known as Chatham College.
Why and how?
As a child Carson developed a great passion for nature. She was also influenced by a great biology professor in college.
Jacques-Yves Cousteau
Who is he?
A french naval officer and ocean explorer, known for his extensive underseas investigations. After graduating from Naval Academy, Cousteau helped to invent many other tools useful to oceanographers, including the diving saucer in 1959 and a number of underwater cameras.
When did he live?
He was born on June 10th, 1910.
What did they study?
He was a writer, a scientist, an innovator and author.
Why and how?
He wanted to share his passion for discovery.
